Biography

Prof. Dr. Yaseen T. Mustafa took office as Vice-President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs at University of Zakho on 1 November 2016.

Dr. Mustafa received his PhD degree in Applied Remote Sensing from Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente. Since joining UoZ, he has served as Director of the Information Communication Technology Center (ICT), and Head of the Department of Mathematics and Head of the Department of General Sciences. He is currently a staff member at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science.

His research interests include the area of remote sensing and GIS, spatial statistics and contextual image analysis, including mathematical and statistical tools, such as Bayesian networks. Applications emerge from a range of agricultural, urban, and environmental fields.

As a highly accomplished researcher, Dr. Mustafa has published over 30 scientific papers and joint and participated in several training courses. He has received numerous awards and honors including thanks and appreciation from Minister of Agriculture and water resources and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research-KRG. He received the Best Paper Award at the ASPRS conference 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA for his paper.

He is a member of TGRS – IEEE Transection on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, ASPRS & American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and ISEIS – International Society for Environmental Information Sciences.
