Directorates & Centers 

Various directorates work under supervision of vice president for scientific & postgraduate affairs. These directorates cover most of the scientific actions at the University of Zakho.


The Directorate of Scientific Affairs operates under the division of Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs. The major vision of this directorate is to strive to consolidate scientific concepts and make them an essential tool in order to advance the advancement of scientific progress of the university forward. It works to create an extensive and comprehensive information base that allows colleges and departments in the university to have a clear and consist picture of their scientific levels and indicators of progress. Moreover, it aims to put future visions for the University in accordance with new experiences and experiences and continuity of excellence.

Directorate of Postgraduate Affairs (DPGA)

It is the focal point of the departments of graduate studies in Faculties/colleges of the University of Zakho and the link between them and the Presidency of the University represented by the Office of the Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs.

This directorate has several tasks as: 

  1. Organizing files including academic and scientific information of the accepted applicants' for the postgraduate studies (Master and Ph.D.)
  2. Follow up the administrative orders, which issued from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific research - KRG, which contains all the instructions and admission regulations in postgraduate studies and circulate them to the colleges to work under which.
  3. Assist in arrangement and preparation of the yearly postgraduate study plans.
  4. Help in the implementation of postgraduate studies plans through the university faculties and departments.


Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA)

Teaching quality assurance plays a major role in achieving the high standard of education that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan region endeavors to achieve through its universities and institutes. The specific activities that the Ministry’s Teaching Quality Assurance Program focuses on are designed to reach several goals that include the following:

  1. Instill confidence in the value of the certificates awarded to students by the universities and institutes of the Kurdistan Region.
  2. To work on building an integrated system for continuous self-evaluation of all university operations and processes.
  3. Establish a specialized library to collect information on quality and accreditation systems for regional and international educational institutions.
  4. Support faculties/colleges, and centers in selecting and adapting standards that will be adopted as a starting point for academic accreditation.
  5. Develop a plan for the implementation of the quality program in the faculties/colleges and its centers through the links between the department in the center of the unit and the affiliated units in the faculties/colleges, and centers.

Directorateof Journals of University of Zakho (DJUOZ)

The Directorate of Journals of University of Zakho operate under the division of Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs. It has It has a great interest by the President of the University as it considered one of the important directorates in the University. It is responsible for the dissemination of good scientific research. JUOZ was founded in 2013 as two independent journals sponsored by the University of Zakho. They started with a frequency of 2 issues per volume. However, due to the good reputation enjoyed by the journal, the number of papers submitted increased, leading to an increase in the number of issues to become 4 per volume. All Journals of JUOZ are Double Blind Peer-Reviewed, Open Access Journals. Their contributors and their audience range from pure and applied science scientists and humanities and social scientists to engineers. Publishing in JUOZ journals starts with finding the right journal for your article. Currently, two Journals are published under this supervision of DJUOZ: 1-) Science Journal of University of Zakho (SJUOZ), and 2-) Humanities Journal of the University of Zakho (HJUOZ).

Directorate of Training and Development (DTD)

The Directorate of Training and Development is one of the important units at the University of Zakho. It leads an academic and scientific role by contributing to the academic development of the teaching staff (especially newly graduated teachers), and training them with various important skills in pedagogy and scientific research, and leadership and management. It provides theoretical and practical lectures in Modern Pedagogy domains and English Language Proficiency courses for higher education candidates. Moreover, the center commences a variety of cultural and educational workshops and courses which meet university's objectives and serve as a liaison between local community and university.

The TDT is housed in a purpose-built facility which includes modern classrooms and a well-equipped computer suite, as well as advanced audio-visual equipment and learning resources. ICT & Statistics Center (ICTSC)

The Information Communication Technology and Statistics Center at the University of Zakho has an effective contribution in the process of developing and improving the education and scientific researches at the University. The Center consists of four Units: Website Unit, Media Unit, Maintenance Unit, and Statistics Unit.

The center aims in assisting the University to accomplish its goals by being trustworthy and committed, by supplying the students, and the academic staff of the University with high quality IT and Statistics services.  Since the ICT & Statistics Center ambitions are to achieve the University's goals, we do so by providing best ICT & Statistics services for all university members (students, academic staff, administrators, and even visitors) in order to quest after an academic privilege. The Center of Applied Remote Sensing and GIS is one of the research centers of scientific specializations in the use and interpretation of visualization space and earth surface interpretation. This includes the task of developing educational and research capacity and the use of visualization and analysis of the space in order to take advantage of them in the areas of exploration and exploitation of natural resources and environment-related studies.

The active research and development program of the center focuses on advancing the application of various geo-spatial technologies including remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
The center also develops spatial-statistical analysis/modelling techniques to the environmental, agricultural and natural resource sciences and management. Read more.
